Volume II only. Decorative brown, leather boards are clean. Chipping at top and bottom of spine A couple of small pieces of the leather is missing. Corners also show chipping and the lether covering has worn away. There is foxing in first few pages in front of back and last few pages in back of book. Light foxing every once in awhile throughout book. Inner pages and the beautiful steel engravings are remarkably bright. All pages attached to spine. 1 page has a small, closed tear (in blank space) - NO other tears inside book. "Illustrated by Upwards of Three Hundred Engravings from Sketches by the Author - The Steel Plates Executed Under the Superintendence of J.M. Butler, the Wood Engravings by Van Ingen & Snyder. 467 pages. There is a fold-out map in back of book. "Mean Monthly Isothermal Lines - Baffin Bay (Projected by Charles A. Schott, U.S. Coast Survey from Observations at Rensselaer Harbor and other places based upon H.W. Dove's isothermal charts., E.K. Kane, Commanding." Frontispiece steel engraving of Grinnell. The beautiful steel engravings (approx. 5 x 7) are worth individual mention: 1). Ice Bergs Near Kosoak - Life Boat Cove; 2). Life in the Esquimaux Igloe - Etah; 3). Great Glacier of Humboldt; 4).
