About this Item

Blue cloth with pasted paper cover illustration, elaborate white decorations and red lettering. Rubbing to all edges. Corners bumped and rubbed. Several previous owner inscriptions to front endpaper. Several soil spots on contents pages and first few pages of text. Text is otherwise overall clean and bright, the occasional thumb smudge. Outside edges show soiling. Last few pages of text have been dog-earred on top edge. Hinge is starting at title page. Wonderful frontis illustration. The story of Theos Alwyn, a poet who has lost his inspiration for both writing and for life. Taking refuge from a storm in a monestary he meets Heliobas the monk. He knows of Heliobas's powers and asks him to allow his soul to roam free. While in a trance, he meets his twin soul, the angel Edris who tells him to travel to the Field of Ardath. He ultimately travels back in time 7,000 years to the ancient city of Al Kyris and attends feasts, is bewitched by the ruthless Lysia, attends a New Years ceremony at the serpent god's temple, lives through an earthquake and then ends back in his own time in London. Quite a read. Bookseller Inventory # D10916
