The second edition, revised and enlarged, of this scarce text, by author and political writer, Edward Kendall. This copy is inscribed by the author to an Irish Earl. Very scarce -only seen once at auction in the last thirty years in any of the three editions, all 1818. Rebacked in leather with the original boards, with gilt lettering and decoration to the spine. With a copperplate ink inscription "Sent to the Earl of Blessington by E. A. Kendall, Esq." to the verso of the frontispiece. With an Appendix, containing a report on the debate in the House of Commons, on a clause for abolishing appeals of murder in the British North American colonies. There is a printing error in the pagination of the last three pages. The first is unpaginated, then 204, and 201. Charles John Gardiner, 1st Earl of Blessington, 1782 1829, was an Irish earl. He was elected a representative peer in 1809, created Earl of Blessington in 1816, and inherited the title of Viscount Mountjoy in 1829. Edward Augustus Kendall, d.1842, was a writer. Little is known about his life. Kendall's literary output is varied, and can be divided into four general categories, "his serious ideas and proposals for political and social reforms, for example his letters on the state of Ireland; his weekly "popular" journalism which, ambitiously, might be described as a forerunner of Harmsworth; his translations from the French; and his children's books" -ODNB. Rebacked in leather with the original boards, with gilt lettering and decoration to the spine. There is wear to the extremities, including rubbing and edge wear with slight loss and lifting, and with marks to the boards. The textblock binding is generally tight and firm. The inner hinges are strained, and the first three leaves are only partially attached. Internally the pages have slight browning with occasional spots, prominent to the first and last few pages. There is a copperplate ink inscription dated 1840 to the front free-endpaper. Overall the condition is good only with a very good interior. Good Only. Seller Inventory # EXP3-B-1
