A highly detailed color lithographic map from “Cram’s Unrivaled Atlas of the World”, published in Rochester , NY by W.H. Stewart. This map measures 14½x11½. George F. Cram (1842-1928), served in the U.S. Army during the American Civil War. After the war ended, Cram joined his uncle's map business in 1867. Two years later, he formed the George F. Cram Co. which became a leading map firm and first American firm to publish a world atlas. It quickly became synonymous with accuracy and innovation.His Atlas contained 270 pp. With 140 color maps (21 are double-page and two sheets with 18 small city maps); 9 color plates of map charts; 9 color plates showing building heights, flags and arms of various nations, the solar system, and other statistical information. Double-page maps include: The World; United States; North America; 2 of Texas (east and west); Montana; California; New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, etc. Full-page maps include: Yellowstone National Park, Toronto, Montreal, Portland (ME), Boston, Brooklyn, Baltimore, Washington DC, Richmond (VA), Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo, Detriot, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, New Orleans, Atlanta, Memphis, Denver, San Francisco, etc. Overall this map is in very good condition with some light foxing and staining, and a few small tears in margins.
