Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Text body is clean and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Pebbled blue gilt stamped cloth over boards, a record of the men and women who served in World War II from Lake County Ohio, Selective Service Board No. 2, from the cities/towns of Willoughby, Wickliffe, Ohio, Kirtland, Mentor, Concord, and Leroy, Ohio. Compiled and published by J.D. Lewis, 198 pp., numerous b & w battle photographs, as well as b & w photographs of most of those from Lake County who served, with details such as parents/spouses names, where served, rank, decorations, etc., alphabetical list by town. An interesting feature is a diary type entry by a Red Cross Canteen Supervisor in the South Pacific, Mary Kendall Browne, the first American female professional tennis player. She was unique for an American woman in transferring her talent to golf, spectacularly in 1924. Shortly after making the U.S. semis at Forest Hills, losing to Helen Wills in three sets, she entered the U.S. Women's Golf Championships and beat the legendary Glenna Collett Vare to reach the final.
