Synopsis: The essays in this collection deal with a number of issues, including the experience of poetic inspiration, the poet's relation to the contemporary age, how some poets develop and others remain the same, and an examination of the different poetical approaches of Pasternak and Mayakovsky.
About the Author: Marina Tsvetaeva (1892-1941) was one of the four great Russian poets of the 20th century, along with Akhmatova, Pasternak and Mandelstam. The first two survived the terror, but Mandelstam died in a camp and Tsvetayeva was driven to hang herself in 1941. Bloodaxe published David McDuff's translation of her "Selected Poems" in 1987.
