Faint blue buckam with navy blue lettering and yellow shield on front cover and blue lettering on spine, top edges gilt. Moderately faded, brief wear to spine ends and corners, front hinge (inner) reinforced, small stain to lower gutter of few pages including title, rear hinge barely cracked. SECOND EDITION October 10, 1896. Author's first book, very hard to find. Illustrated by John T. McCutcheon. The "foible-laden" Artie was penned by Hoosier playwright and humorist George Ade while working as a newspaperman in Chicago. Story formed from a collection of sketches that first appeared in The Chicago Record Newspaper, where Ade had a column, capturing through the character of the confident young office boy, Artie, a sense of Chicago.
