Richly decorated binding of gilt and red set off by the gorgeous gilt on black endpapers from Firmin-Didot cover the classic work on the art of the Renaissance by Paul Lacroix with the assistance of Ferdinand Sere. This is the sixth edition. Lacroix was a French Author and Journalist who wrote extensively on historical matters and the arts. In good condition, the gutters are cracked, front and rear, most likely due to the weight of the book. The extensive color plates are stunning with de vignette planches chromolithographiques executees par F. Kellerhoven et de quartre cents gravure sur Bois . While the gutters are cracked, the spine is in place, attached primarily at the top with the bottom away from the spine.
