This hefty English language work offers a detailed survey in words and photos of the art of the past and present civilizations of the islands of the South Pacific. With dozens of black and white photos as well as many in color; many of which fold out to multiple pages. Also included are maps of the regions studied. Translated (presumably from the French) by Anthony Christie. An entry in The Arts of Mankind series, edited by noted French author and art critic André Malraux and by Georges Salles. Edition number not stated. --- In full red cloth-covered boards with titling and decorations gilt-stamped on cover and spine. with white satin ribbon bookmark. Volume wrapped in pictorial dust jacket. --- A firm copy with dampstains to fore-edge of some leaves, a little yellowing to edges of leaves, otherwise lacking obvious damages.
