This book is a wonderful read for anybody who is or is not acquainted with these various mythologies. The mythologies that are discussed are that of Persia (Parsi mythology), Kafirs (a pagan sect of Afghanistan), Buddhism in India, Brahmanic Mythology, Lamaism, Mythology of Indo-China and Java, Mythology of modern China and the mythology of Japan. The book has 15 plates and 354 other illustrations in the text. This book is a reprint of the 1932 edition. About the Hackin was a French archaeologist and Resistance member. He acquired the French nationality in 1912. Initially, he was an assistant curator of the Musée Guimet and became later the curator. He participated in the Yellow Expedition in 1931. After several archeological missions in Afghanistan, he was appointed director of the Délégation archéologique française en Afghanistan in 1934. During the excavations conducted by Hackin and his team in Begram, between 1937 and 1940, an exceptional treasure of the Kushan period (1st–2nd century A.D.) was unearthed. It included a large number of Roman bronze, alabaster, Syrian glass, coins, Chinese lacquer bowls, and the famous ‘Begram ivories’.
