About this Item

First Edition (so stated). 8vo: xxxix,[1],276pp. Publisher's maroon cloth, spine stamped in gilt, price-clipped pictorial dust jacket. Virtually pristine (but for few stray spots on fore-edge), square, tight and probably unread, spine gilt undiminished, pages clean and crisp; about Fine jacket, spine panel moderately toned. Collects eleven of the author's stories. In the title story (actually, a novella), a modern man with ancient race memory, an author with a passion for gambling, spends his final few days in a Lisbon hotel. The collection also includes the author's introductory essay, "The Writer on the Writing," for which alone the book is worth owning. Note: With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed. Bookseller Inventory # BB0249
