Original dark green cloth with gilt stamped spine and cover titles; gilt and black stamped cover illustration and decoration. Imprint includes: New York: Scribner, Welford, and Armstrong. Date taken from English Catalogue of Books. Publisher's device printed on title page. Colour wood-engraved plates include areas printed in colour with metal. All are unsigned and without imprint. Plates and text are separated by guard sheets. "Aunt Louisa" was a pseudonym of Laura Valentine, general editor of Warne's publishing house. Inscribed on front free endpaper: "Jennie Z. Banks Presented by her Uncle C. Jack Christmas 1874. Each story includes one double-page illustration. In Very Good Condition: corners are rubbed with minor fraying; front joint rubbed with 1-cm. split in cloth; back board slightly rubbed; front is clean and bright; finger-soiling on a few guard pages and one page of text; otherwise clean and bright.
