Martino Garati or Martinus de Garatis (1383-1453) was a jurist and economist, maybe most famous for his ?Tractacus de monetis? (1518). ?Speculum feudorum? by Claude de Seyssel was first published in Milan 1508. Claude de Seyssel (dead 1520) was a jurist and humanist from Savoy. He became a counsellor to King Louis XII of France in 1499, and was sent with embassies to Italy and England. He praised both the king Louis XII and monarchy as such, which he believed to be the best form of power. He also discussed social classes and his ideas were very influential in the 16th century. ?Speculum feudorum? was his main legal work, and it provided a thorough treatment of feudal law, which he considered of the greatest ?utility and necessity? for kingdoms, duchies, cities, provinces, castles and towns (Rebecca Boone ?War, Domination, and the Monarchy of France? p. 31).
