About this Item

Privately Printed. Kelsey served as a paymaster in the U.S. Navy during the Civil War, participating in the blockade. He provides an account of an engagement which he calls the "Mosquito Inlet Engagement," during which he was shot in the hand ending his naval career. Shortly thereafter, in 1864, Kelsey along with his father began operating an abandoned cotton plantation 90 miles above Vicksburg. One of 200 copies, this copy is unnumbered, but has a presentation from the author s daughter dated June 1925. Very good copy of the first edition. Some wear to the spine tabs and very little shelf wear. 130 pages. Bookseller Inventory # 28002
