Trollope relates his life from the influence of his childhood and mother, to the time he spent in the Post Office and the motivation behind his literary career.
From the Back Cover: Trollope was born in 1815, the product of a formidable mother and a tragically unsuccessful father who was socially ambitious for his sons. Poor, ill-dressed, awkward, and sullen, he was the victim of vicious bullying at Harrow and Winchester. But he had inherited his mother's determination, and managed later to carve out a successful career in the General Post Office while devoting every spare moment to writing. In this book, Trollope looks back on his life with some satisfaction.

Gutes Ex. - Englisch. - INHALT : Introduction --- Note on the Text --- A Chronology of Anthony Trollope --- AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY --- Select Bibliography --- Appendix I: Passages cancelled in the manuscript --- Appendix II: Chronology of Trollope's books --- Explanatory Notes --- Index. // The unsparing honesty of Anthony Trollope's Autobiography did his reputation little service on its publication in 1883. But his capacity of detached self-presentment and his contempt of humbug make a different impression when viewed in the light of the great revival of interest in Trollope's novels which has taken place in the present century. For many grateful readers, the Autobiography now presents an author whom they can respect the more for being a man of strong character, humility, courage, and humour.
