xv, 501 pages; illustrations; index; gilt top edging, bound in white boards with gilt borders and lettering. Joseph Jefferson (1829-1905) a noted stage actor and comedian. He spent his whole life on the stage and was most famous for his role in "Rip Van Winkle" which he toured around the world starring in. He was one of the founding members of the Players' Club in Manhattan and an award for actors in Chicago is named after him. His most famous saying is "There are no small parts, only small actors." The Autobiography includes a great deal about fellow actors during his career. Some soiling to cover, as is usual with this title. Bookseller Inventory # 11849
