12mo, single leaf folded once. 1p. Written on printed stationery of the U. S. Legation, Japan. Dated Yokohama, January 23, 1873. "My Dear Sir, All right-it may be 10 before I can get there but I will be there as.on time as possible, Yours very Truely, De Long." Recipents name at the bottom (unidentified). De Long came to California in the early 1850's and by 1853 operated several gold on the Yuba River in Nevada County. He was also active in early California politics and was elected Deputy Sheriff and admitted to the Bar in 1857. He was also elected to the California State Assembly from Yuba County where he served two terms. He died in Typhoid Fever 1876. (Wickipedia). Bookseller Inventory # 05434
