About this Item

Lord Lurgan, a long and distinguished line of British nobility; son of William Brownlow, 3rd Lord Lurgan (1858-1937). ALS, 3pp, 5½" X 7", London, England, 1937 March 18. Addressed to Irving Schwerke (1893-1975), American expatriate pianist and music critic. Near fine. Likely in response to a musical invitation, Brownlow declines, replying in part: "My dear father died a few weeks ago, & I am hoping this weekend to go away for a complete change & rest over Easter. I hope to be in Paris a little later in the year so perhaps there may be a chance then if things are seasonably quiet!" Boldly signed "William Brownlow / (Lord Lurgan)." Penned large and bold on black-bordered mourning stationery. Original envelope (also with mourning borders) present, addressed in Brownlow's hand. Bookseller Inventory # 25165
