One page, 4 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches. Also included is an contemporary engraved portrait of Warner. On University Club, Madison Square stationery. In black ink. In this letter to a Mr. Ellsworth, Warner writes belatedly that he intended to be at an event that Ellsworth had invited him to but was unable to do so. Charles Dudley Warner (b. 1829, d. 1900) was an American newspaperman, magazine editor, essayist and author. He collaborated with Mark Twain in writing "The Gilded Age" (1873).
