8vo, Letter dated "New Years Day" apparently 1833. The integral address leaf is postmarked 1 Noon, 1 Ja, 18 3 (third numeral left out). The text speaks of "Tuesday the 22 January next". Paper watermarked H. Mills 1832. The letter is headed 14 Buckingham Street, Strand where Etty resided from 1827-48. To: Sir (F. W. Carter, Honarary Secretary, Committee of the Ladye Chapel, High Street, Southwark) Etty responds to "a request to act as one of the stewards to a Ball to be held at the London Tavern on Tuesday the 22nd January next in aid of the Fund; in reply I beg to say, that such is the urgent nature of my present engagements, that it will be totally out of my power to fulfil the duties of such an offce. ."
