Handwritten letter dated June 8, 1860 from Cowlitz Landing, Washington Territory. One page, 7 3/4 x 12 inches, with original unstamped envelope with Olympia postmark dated June 21. Fred A. Clarke (1827-1878) was a Washington pioneer, having come to the state in 1851 from Florida by way of California. He served in the Washington Territorial Legislature and was appointed Attorney General for the Territory by the First Territorial Legislature. He later farmed in Pierce County. In this letter to Daniel Hubbard (1829-1891), Mr. Clarke offers to trade bushels of harvested wheat for a 10 horse power thrasher. Bookseller Inventory #
