This American author co-founded "The American Rural Home" magazine in 1871. ALS, 2pp, 5½" X 8½", Rochester, NY, 1876 February 9. Addressed to George W. Bungay. Very good. Interesting content on ornate "The American Rural Home" pale violet letterhead concerning Hopkins book "Waifs and Their Authors," reading in part: "My book of 'Waifs' has been delayed but is nearly ready for issue. You will like it. The draft upon my private pocket has been considerable, and I really need some speedy returns. If you could just as well send me the $20.00 you pledged, the favor would be appreciated." Rural Home Publishing Company did indeed publish this collection of thumbnail biographies and poems by little-known newspaper poets later this same year (BAL 18465), and in 1879 D. Lothrop & Co. in Boston thought it worthy a second edition. Bookseller Inventory # 15293
