Henry Laurens Dawes (b. 1816 -- d. 1903). Letter to Thomas Dawes Eliot, North Adams, Massachusetts, September 9, 1860. Four pages. Dawes was a Congressman and Senator from Massachusetts from 1857 to 1892 and was very influential in national affairs, especially legislation affecting the American Indian. Here he writes Eliot (b. 1808 -- d. 1870), who served as a Congressman from Massachusetts, 1859 - 1869, about battling a bout of illness. He thanks Eliot for having gotten an article of his in the papers and also writes about both his own daughter and Eliot's. Bookseller Inventory # 3670
