2 pages, 8 x 10 inches, dated November 14, 1842, from Concord, New Hampshire. Moses Clark (1805-1844) represented the town of Landaff in the New Hampshire State Legislature. In this letter to Daniel Clark in Landaff, Moses Clark expresses sadness that the medicine Daniel Clark's wife is taking for a breast tumor does not seem to be working. He also writes that although the Legislature was doing a "radical" rewrite of state statutes, newspapers were not reporting on it. In closing he writes, "I rejoice to learn that the Christians in Landaff are yet contending for Holiness." Clark was also a devoted follower of the American religious leader William Miller. Among other teachings, Miller predicted a Second Coming during the years 1843-1844. As the predicted date (Oct. 22, 1844) approached, Clark became so overwhelmed by the prospect that he committed suicide by drowning. Bookseller Inventory #
