Feb. 14, 1859. One page. 5 x 8 inches. Gardner (1827-1888) was a Massachusetts lawyer who served on the Mass. Supreme Court from 1885 to 1888. In this letter to William Bartlett Sewall, Gardner asks for a copy of the Sewall coat of arms. On the bakc of this letter Sewall has drafted a response in pencil (not signed) stating that the various designs he has are not exactly a coat of arms but that he will send along what he has. Sewall was a long time Maine lawyer and writer. Bookseller Inventory # 5377
