4 letters, 9 pages total, plus 2 envelopes, 1907-14. New Jersey and California. Viola Allen (1869-1948) was an American actress who began her career at the age of 15 and acted in many Shakespearean plays and modern comedies. In 1906 she married Peter Duryea. The letters are to Willliam Winter and his family, one to his son Jefferson, one to his daughter Mrs. Fielding Stilson, and one to Mrs. Winter. Winter (1836-1917) was a long time American theatre critic. The four letters briefly described: 1. 1912. From Pinecroft, Bernardsville, N.J. Three pages. Miss Allen promises Winter some photographs for a book he is working on and also writes about plays in which she is acting. 2. 1914. From "Edgehill, Scarborough-on-the-Hudson". To Jefferson Winter. Two sided card to accompany a large photograph for a book that he is working on. 3. 1907. From Hotel Alexandria, Los Angeles. To Mrs. Stilson (Miss Winter's married name). One page. Apologizes for not being able to provide box tickets to a play and thanks Mrs. Stilson for some roses. 4. From Hotel Alexandria, Los Angeles, no date. To Mrs. Winter, 2 pages.
