Approx. 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" etched card titled House on the Pond, Saugatuck, Conn. Inscribed on the verso: Every good wish of/the Season to you/and with deep appreciation/of all your kindness/ in the Hospital from/Lillian D. Wald". Miss Wald was a very important and influential women. She was a nurse, social worker, public health official, teacher, author, editor, publisher, women's rights activist, and the found of American Community of Nursing. She was also regarded as the found of the Visiting Nurses in the United States and Canada and she was on of the seminal founders of the NAACP. First president of the National Organization for Public Health Nursing. She helped establish the United State Children's Bureau and lobbied for years for the end of child labor laws.She was nominated on The New York Times' 12 greatest living American women's list, and although she did not make the final list, she later received the Lincoln Medallion for her work as an "Outstanding Citizen of New York".
