About this Item

1934 omnibus (originally issued as a set of four slender books). Very Good hardcover, edgeworn pictorial boards. Four novellas, two of them stylish ghost stories, a third with some folklorish bits. Nice art deco boards and interior decorations by Joseph E. Sandford. The front paste-down has the collectible personal book plate of Arthur C. Hicks (1901-1994), a scholar and professor of the Romantic Period, whose papers are today held by Special Collections at Western Washington University, and who is the author of "Cenci: A Stage Version of Shelley's Cenci" (1945), "The Structure of Meredith's Novels and the Comic Spirit" (1939), "Shelley's Cenci and the Bellingham Theatre Guild" (1979), a history of Western University published in 1974, "The Place of Christianity in Shelley's Thought" (1932). When retired he was active as a peace activist and published "Dear Mr. President: Letters on the Nuclear Arms Race" (1985). So, a book of fantasy fiction and a small memento of a noted Northwest educator for spice. Bookseller Inventory # 3712
