Allardyce, Alexander. BALMORAL: A Romance Of The Queen's Country. In Three Volumes. Edinburgh: Blackwood, 1893. First Edition. FINE PUBLISHER'S PRESENTATION COPY with Blackwood's blind-stamped "compliments" on the title page. Original publishers deep blue cloth decorated in gilt. All three volumes a trifle cocked but virtually without wear. Front hinge of volume one a little cracked, Volume Three has a little patch of discoloration and the rear free endpaper has been neatly excised. Allardyce (1846-1896) was a journalist in India and Ceylon for much of his life, returning to his native Scotland where he served as reader and sub-editor for Blackwood (the publisher of this very novel). Given this is a Blackwood presentation copy, it seems somewhat safe to say it might equally have served as an author's presentation copy. BALMORAL, a Jacobite tale, was the third of four novels written by Allardyce. As always, Victorian three-decker novels are rare in such Fine, fresh condition. Wolff 90. Bookseller Inventory #
