Description:

Vintage original 41 x 27" (104 x 69 cm.) one sheet poster, USA. James Stewart, George C. Scott, dir: Otto Preminger; Columbia. This is one of the greatest of all of Saul Bass' movie posters, and I personally find it more perfectly laid out than his other great masterpiece, "Vertigo". It is getting increasingly difficult to find a genuinely nice example of this poster, much less one which is unbacked and entirely unrestored, as this one is. Folded, with a few scattered pinholes and some light creasing near the bottom of the poster, just ABOUT FINE. Bookseller Inventory # 10825

Book Description Columbia Pictures, Culver City, CA, 1977. Two vintage black-and-white still photographs from the 1977 re-release of the 1959 film. Preminger's noir-ish courtroom drama that enlightened mainstream cinema with its frank discussion of rape and promiscuity, topics that were to that point only portrayed in B-movies. Nominated for several Academy Awards, and placed in the National Film Registry in 2012. Based on John D. Voelker's 1958 novel (written under the pseudonym Robert Traver), about Frederick Manion (Gazzara), an army lieutenant, who is arrested for the murder of a bartender. He claims that the victim had raped and beaten his wife Laura (Remick), and although Laura supports her husband's story, the forensics team can find no evidence that she'd been raped. Frederick's attorney is small-town lawyer Paul Biegler (Stewart), who comes to realize his defendant is violently possessive and jealous, and that his wife has a reputation sleeping around. Set in Michigan and shot on location there. 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cm). And a few tiny creases, else Near Fine. Complete collation details available on request. National Film Registry. Criterion Collection 600. Grant US. Seller Inventory # 133599
