First Edition. Fine hardcover in Fine dustwrapper by Alan Hunter. Limited to 500 copies. Author introduction and even lengthier Afterword, together with a dozen more Jamesian ghost stories. John Whitbourn began showing his ghostly tales to the public in 1987 through Rosemary Pardoe's well-famed journal of M. R. James studies and pastiches "Ghosts and Scholars." His tales are set in the odd village of Binscombe, featuring Binscombe's even odder inhabitants, living and dead. The literary Binscombe has a real counterpart, Whitbourn's actual ancestral homeland, England's "Down's Country" where at least ten generations of Whitbourns have lived. Seller Inventory # 3590
