About this title

Synopsis:

Spirit of Hope Publishing announces the release of it’s newest book BORN LOSERS OR LEADERS? A Positive Spiritual Perspective on ADD by author Jerry Seiden, M.A. The book brings a new perspective to the topic of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD or ADHD). Author Jerry Seiden, a pastoral counselor and prolific writer, seeks to lift attitudes about ADD to a more positive and spiritual place. He believes that the negative labels and perceptions about ADD damage the children and adults who are diagnosed with the condition.
Jerry Seiden admits that BORN LOSERS OR LEADERS? has an attitude and an edge. Still, the book is full of basic information, clinical insights, and historical perspectives into ADD. Seiden notes the work of Daniel Amen, M.D. (author of Healing ADD) and the immense medical contributions by David E. Comings, M.D. and The City of Hope Hospital (see www.HopePress.com). The book builds upon current concepts, but goes far beyond the “disorder” paradigm. The main body of the material explores the “differences” possessed by those labeled ADD.
The author describes the many positive traits that experts have long noted in those with ADD (e.g. intelligent, creative, intuitive, resourceful, flexible, change agents, and willing to risk). Then Seiden goes all the way back to the Greek philosopher Plato and his famous written work The Republic (from the 4th century B.C.). The author describes the slice of society that Plato suggested were the true leaders (philosopher-kings)—Plato called them Guardians. Seiden compares the many traits of ADD with the characteristics of Plato’s Guardians. He suggests that perhaps the design of creation allowed for an unique difference in the real leaders—those like ADDers who are abstract, sensitive, artistic, spiritual, and mystical.
The book describes the author’s personal struggles and spiritual discoveries about ADD. It is also full of many inspirational stories and uplifting perspectives that will encourage and enlighten any reader. But most important, the book gives readers practical ways to move from the “loser-label” and low-self esteem to a new attitude and appreciation for the “ADD-difference.”

About the Author:

Jerry has written and developed more than 60 published titles related to self-help, recovery, and spirituality. However, for most of that work he has been in the shadows as a ghostwriter. Seiden has a positive attitude about that behind-the-scenes experience. He says, “It has given me the opportunity to research, study, and write about a broad spectrum of topics. It has also given me a unique and objective perspective on many contemporary and critical issues.” Jerry has just begun to use this experience and education to develop his own books. In Chapter 1 of Born Losers or Leaders, Jerry says, "I really came to understand ADD in depth. Still, in the books that I wrote for others, I had to say what they wanted. My opinion didn’t matter. They wanted to use my gift—not hear my guff. But this book is very different. The words in this book are mine."
Jerry realized his own ADD during research and development for the first book he ghostwrote on the ADD topic. Since he and his children were diagnosised, ADD has become an important issue in his life and work. He uses his skill as a pastoral counselor to work with individuals and families affected by ADD and to facilitate support groups for them. And he continues to develop written and audio resources for those with ADD and related learning disabilities and behavioral problems.
At present, Jerry Seiden continues to inform and inspire others in his presentations at conferences, parent groups, community organizations, and in churches. He has recently begun a twice weekly internet podcast called The ADD Realitycheck. He already has a number of subscribers within the U.S. and several other countries. As a speaker, Jerry Seiden is most frequently asked to speak on spirituality as a healing resource. He teaches an easy-to-use method for mood management that he uses to stay “emotionally sober” and “spiritually connected” in the midst of life’s craziness. Jerry’s understanding of recovery comes from his own journey, and his message is one of personal experience, strength, and hope. He also uses his own story, as an adult with ADD and person in recovery, to underscore the spirituality and effectiveness of the many 12 Step programs available to those with a recovery need.
Jerry is the founder and pastor of Spirit of Hope Christian Fellowship. It is a special ministry for those who are allergic to “religion” and “church.” It is also for those who struggle to fit into traditional congregations because of problems with addictive behaviors, ADD/ADHD, Tourette syndrome, bi-polar disorder, learning disabilities, wounded/damaged emotions, or other related needs. Spirit of Hope is a safe place to find spiritual, shame-free support in a Christian, recovery-friendly environment.
