About this title

Synopsis:

Amos Walker, Estleman's seasoned private eye, gets emotionally involved in a case for the first time. His good friend and Vietnam buddy Barry Stackpole is a news columnist who is subpoenaed by a grand jury and fails to appear. His employer is being fined $1000 each day that he does not show. Also, a sultry book editor is looking for Stackpole and a manuscript that he has supposedly written. Walker follows the trail of his missing friend into the world of organized crime, the car-theft racket, precinct police headquarters, crime hunters and his own shrouded past, with only a smoky sense of who is friend and who is enemy.

From the Inside Flap:

The BookcassetteŽ format is a special recording technique developed as a means of condensing the full, unabridged audio text of a book to record it on fewer tapes. In order to listen to these tapes, you will need a cassette player with balance control to adjust left/right speaker output. Special adaptors to allow these tapes to be played on any cassette player are available through the publisher or some US retail electronics stores.
