About this title

The seven principles of classical ballet are explored through the practice of the daily ballet class. The sequence of movements is described at elementary, intermediate and advanced levels - which run parallel on the page for easy comparison. This major section is preceded by general advice to teachers, and followed by techniques that will help dancers after illness or injury. Joan Lawson taught at the Royal Ballet School for over 20 years and is the successful author of books on many aspects of ballet training, practice and history.

About the Author:

Joan Lawson's training in England and Russia led to her career as a writer of ballet history, technique and criticism in books, newspapers and magazines, as a much-respected teacher at the Royal Ballet Schools and Companies, as an adviser and examiner at the Royal Academy of Dancing, and as co-founder (with Justin Howse, FRCS, and Shirley Hancock, MSCP) of the Remedial Dance Clinic.
