About this Item

Small 4to. Stiff beige wrappers, spiderweb-patterned glassine. 10pp, (8pp), 69pp. Fine/very good. Glassine a bit edgeworn, with a few small edge chips and age toned spine. Number 1 in the "Chefs-d'Oeuvre Classiques de l'Opera Francais" series -- rather cryptic, but a superb facsimile of a 19th century French text for this groundbreaking 1581 work that was the first dramatic performance to combine dance, music and poetry into a unified whole. Beaujoyeux (died 1587) was an Italian composer, violinist and choreographer who developed theatrical dance and opera, mainly in France. A tight, clean, handsome first edition of this modern facsimile. From the collection of musicologist and conductor/director Paul Clinton Echols (1944-94). Bookseller Inventory # 31793
