Synopsis: Founded in 1659, Baltimore County has been a dynamic political, economic and social force within Maryland throughout its prestigious history. As a way to commemorate its 350th Anniversary, a publication was authorized through the Historical Society of Baltimore County. The book contains 400+ images, most previously unpublished, relating to Baltimore County History. It is composed of visual images, maps, historical content and the personal memories of Baltimore Countians arranged in thematic chapters by chronology. To augment the inclusion of the people, places and events which are representative of the County's history throughout its distinct geographic regions, overarching strands relating to the concepts of tradition, change and diversity are presented as an additional interpretive element. Accordingly, the words and images gathered from all strata of existence paint a realistic and representative portrait of Baltimore County past and present; a view that can be perused by current and future readers as an anniversary "time capsule." The author, Barry A. Lanman, Ed.D., is the Director of the Martha Ross Center for Oral History at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
