The only US defense protecting the Norfolk Navy base, the Gosport Navy Yard and the USS Constellation were the defenses on Craney Island. In June 1813 the British launched an amphibious attack on the island, however, US forces were able to hold off the British Navy. Signed inscription by the author on the inside front cover.
