Synopsis: Ellen Sloan and Charlie "Beagle" Beaghley, members of the Beagle Detective Agency, must solve twelve crimes as they seek the culprits responsible for a series of anonymous letters and acts of vandalism--for which Charlie is being blamed
From School Library Journal:
Grade 4-6 Ellen and Charlie (Beagle) Beaghley of Super Sleuth (Putnam, 1985) have returned with 12 more mini-mysteries centering around vandalism blamed on Beagle. Each mystery is solved by using a grid of names and clues that focuses on logical reasoning. Readers are encouraged to work the puzzle before reading on. Answers are provided, with the solution explained on the last page of each case. Avid fans of Super Sleuth will enjoy this story, but the mysteries are contrived. An explanation of the source of the clues is not given; for example, when an arson is being investigated, and Jake is a suspect, one of the clues is simply "Jake and the arsonist had a serious argument that almost turned into a fight." This will have limited appeal for kids who like logic puzzles, but don't count on it to please serious mystery fans. Candy Colborn, Cottonwood Creek Elementary School, Englewood, Colo.
