From the estate of New York legend, Elaine Kaufman (1929-2010), who's restaurant attracted writers, editors, actors, filmmakers, artists, musicians, CEOS, cops, and robbers for 47 years. She served dinner -- and hosted late-night poker games -- to Norman Mailer, George Plimpton, Nora Ephron, Kurt Vonnegut, and more, and when they hit it big, they paid her back. Her restaurant and home were filled with artwork, photographs, memorabilia, and books from her coterie of loyal patrons. WIth a laid-in letter, typed on Harvard University stationery and signed, from writer, editor, and critic Leon Wieseltier: "Dear Elaine, You've been so good about checks and tables -- about finding for me an occasional place int he charmed circle. Please accept this as a small gesture of gratitude & friendship (& with 'greetings of the season'). See you in the city on my next furlough. Leon." A nice association copy.
