FIRST EDITION, SECOND STATE; no dj; eleven word dedication; from the library of the linguist Glenn Gilbert with his inscription and bookseller's pencilled price notation on the second ffep, first ffep (which probably contained the an earlier owner's inscription) has been snipped out, head of spine bumped, rubbed, and slightly chipped, bottom of spine bumped, edges rubbed, some abrasions on front cover edges, else reasonably tight, square, and apparently little used, overall rating G to VG; would interest collectors of first editions of 19th century American fiction; bound in heavy dark blue boards with gold lettering on the spine and front, a gold star burst pattern on the upper front; 12mo -- 6 7/8 inches tall, vii + 560 numbered pages + 16 numbered pages of ads. A number of the books are valuable and hard to find, as for example a 1/2-leather-bound first edition of Alfred Russell Wallace's The Malay Archipelago (2 vols.), recently sold for presentation to the Mayor of London on his visit to Malaysia, and a first edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
