About this title

Synopsis:

Book by Wade, Mary Dodson

From Booklist:

Gr. 4-6. Using succinct text, short chapters, and numerous illustrations, Wade introduces young readers to America's most infamous traitor. Arnold served for many years as a high-ranking officer in the Continental Army, was once referred to as "the bravest of the brave" by George Washington, and was held in high public esteem for much of his early life. His betrayal of the U.S. government stunned many of his contemporaries, but Wade cites instances when Arnold demonstrated questionable personal judgment that make his final actions seem in keeping with his true character. Although the text is brief, the author includes several excerpts from original sources and an afterword that clarifies the fate of Arnold, his wife, Peggy, and Major John Andre. The photographs and reproductions of early engravings and paintings are particularly clear; the bibliography and index will further aid young report writers. Kay Weisman
