From the Author:

From the Author of Bent Not Broken
Toni Campbell

If Bent Not Broken appears to be just another love story, then I have somehow missed my mark. It was not intended to be. Although Angel Duvon, the main character, seems to be experiencing difficulty with relationships and love, this novel is about much more. On the surface the relationships seem to be the driving force for this story, but the underlying issues are much more important.

This novel is about depth of friendship, life’s struggles and tests, betrayal, alcoholism, and the dysfunctional propensities that surface somewhere within each of us at some point in our lives. Yes, the relationships are key, but they exist only as the catalyst for the changes that occur in the character’s lives.

Angel Duvon finally comes to grip with her tumultuous relationship with her old flame James (J.J.) Rollins. She finally sees him as he really is rather than the rose-colored perception that she has carried a torch for over the years. Only with the help of reoccurring dreams and her love for the new man in her life is she finally able to let go.

This novel is about inner unrest and outward charades. The characters were designed to be portrayed three-dimensionally. The reader is privy to their thoughts as well as their actions. Each represents the attributes of many different people. At the conclusion of the book, Angel converses with her mother and the conversation sparks a single quote from their past—"Your spirit is only bent, not broken." This novel is about many things but most of all it is about friendship, love, and having our worlds turned upside down by the people that we entrust with our hearts.
