A New England-born President breakfasts in the White House on cracked wheat cereal and tomato marmalade and they become popular again. Another President's wife sets the example of economy by reviving Kedgeree and scrapple for White House luncheons. The 14 page foreword gives tips on economy for the home kitchen. The first chapter begins with basic caking like white bread, graham or whole wheat, and leads on to Bear Claws, Brioche, Dinner Sticks, Almond Rolls, Sweet Potato Scones, etc. Handwritten recipes on scraps of paper nclude Indian Pudding, Miss Worcester's Chocolate Fudge Cookies, Clam Bisque, Uncooked Cranberry Relish, also handwritten notes on some recipes.
