Edward Robinson (1794-1863) philologist, geographer, and professor of Biblical literature. His publication of Biblical Researches in Palestine (1841) "established his reputation as one of the foremost geographers and Biblical scholars of his time. The lapse of three generations has placed him even higher in the history of scholarship, for it is now recognized that his work marks an epoch in the development of historical geography and related fields."--Dict.
