Description:

Papers No. 1, 2 and 3 all in VG to NF condition and in Brodart archival plastic sleeves. Paper No. 1 is in NF condition, the cover shows slight fading around the edges. Paper No. 2 is in VG+ condition with fading around the edges and the pamphlet at the head of the spine has a 1/4 inch long bend approximately 1 1/2 inches wide along the top of the book. Major Fletcher Gardner is a contributing author. Paper No. 3 is in VG- condition, published in 1933, fading along the edges, previous owners name in ink on the front end paper. The last 10 pages have separated from the attaching staples but are still connected to the cover by the binding glue. Bookseller Inventory #

Very rare item in the history of Texas archaeology and the Witte Museum's excavations in the Lower Pecos region, mainly the Shumla Caves on the Rio Grande. 14 pp. 2 photo illustration, included hafted chipped stone tool. Mostly a spirited defense of Martin's use of "Basket Maker" to describe the materials. Review of atlatl and bow and arrow in Basket Maker definition as well as description of material culture from the excavations. Precursor to Big Bend Basket Makers No. 3 (see separate listing by Seco Books), also by Martin. This thin volume has text in very good shape; covers are worn lightly sunned on edges; previous owner has his stamp and his initials (ink) on front cove. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall.
