Howard (Chief of Bands and Music, U.S. Air Force and Commander-Conductor of the U.S. Air Force Band) believed in the goodwill value of the Air Force Band touring to other countries. This work details some of those trips and concerts - London, Berlin, Taiwan, Japan, Cambodia, and Iceland especially - against the background of the Korean War and the start of the Cold War, within the first decade or two of the band's founding. Born in Reamstown (Lancaster County) Pennsylvania, Colonel Howard has a road coming from the closest exit of the Pennsylvania Turnpike named in his honor. Book Condition : Very Good; no text markings; a few marks on side text block; light bumping to spine ends.
