About this title

A frog on roller skates, a pig on a trapeze, a rabbit on a tightrope, and other performing animals explain thirteen pairs of opposites, including first/last, dirty/clean, near/far, over/under, and empty/full

From School Library Journal:

PreS Yet another book that introduces the concept of opposites. This newest offering is poorly executed, with extremely cluttered pages filled with circus animals and objects in a jumble of patterns. The animals themselves appear to be angry rather than playful, with their jutted angular mouths, jagged teeth, sharp claws, and pointed fingernails. Even the activities that illustrate the concepts show the grimmer aspects of the circus scene hot shows a spotted animal swallowing fire; in high and low a pink rabbit with bulging green eyes walks on and falls from a tightrope; in in and out a tiger is shot from a cannon. In spite of some goofy looking characters with ping-pong ball eyes, the book lacks humor, and what has been substituted is frenetic activity. The colors are bold and vivid, but in this setting they seem brash rather than cheerful. Far better choices for introducing opposites are Hoban's Push Pull, Empty Full (Macmillan, 1972) and the Maestros' Traffic: a Book of Opposites (Crown, 1981). Trev Jones, ``School Library Journal''
