About this title

This deluxe paperbound edition is the life story of one of surfings most popular characters. With more than 100 early rare photographs, it follows the anecdotes of this energetic colorful personality through the historic transitions of surfing in Hawaii and California.

From the Inside Flap:

Lorrin "Whitey" Harrison was a surfer. You may have seen him in 1993 on the ArmorAll television commercial where he appears strumming his ukelele and singing. Laughing, he introduces himself then proceeds to surf his way through the rest of the segment before he drives off in a red sports car. A portion of this commercial was aired on national news when he died abruptly the same year at 80 years old. The public was captivated by this lively little old man in a palm frond hat.
