About this title

Synopsis:

Expert help for designing and managing a biosolids program

So notoriously complex and occasionally controversial that it has paradoxically reduced biosolids applications in some locales, CFR Part 503 becomes understandable, manageable, and doable with this expert guide from experienced environmental engineer Michael J. McFarland, diplomate of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and certified Grade IV wastewater and water treatment operator.

If you have interest in or responsibility for fulfilling the intent of Part 503, putting biosolids and organic residues to beneficial use and decreasing the burden on landfills, Biosolids Engineering can help you:

*Control the factors in wastewater and biosolids processing that affect usability
*Apply soil chemistry and physics to finding safe and appropriate uses for biosolids
*Design needed hydraulic, storage, and transport systems
*Ensure pathogen and vector attraction reduction
*Make biosolids engineering a team effort with agricultural specialists, mining engineers, water treatment officials, and highway, transportation, and timber specialists
*Apply sampling and analysis protocols for effectiveness and safety
*Increase public awareness of the safety and value of biosolids applications

From the Back Cover:

*Expert exegesis of 40 CFR 503 rules *Workable engineering solutions *Step-by-step help in designing and managing a biosolids program The EPA's Part 503 tackles one of the great environmental concerns of our time: what to do with the millions of tons of biosolids and organic residues created annually by wastewater treatment and other operations. So notoriously complex and occasionally controversial that it has paradoxically reduced biosolids applications in some locales, CFR Part 503 becomes understandable, manageable, and doable with this expert guide from experienced environmental engineer Michael J. Store Description

Thank you for taking an interest in one of our books. Please see the "Shipping Terms" section below for details on our shipping and returns policies. We are a mail-order only bookstore located in Bellingham, WA specializing in modern out-of-print books of all genres. We thoroughly clean all books that we offer for sale and do all basic book-repairs ourselves. Basic repairs include repairing slanted bindings, applying additional glue to hinges that have become excessively loose, hinge-tape repairs for damaged hinges, minor binding split repairs, gluing small tears in exterior of covers, removal (as much as possible) of black marker marks to covers of ex-library books, removal of smaller non-permanent stickers, straightening of minor bowing to covers or spine, and applying jacket protectors to books with torn or fragile jackets or for especially pristine or collectible books. We do not do major binding repairs, and any un-repairable binding splits or general weakness in binding will be noted. Any significant repairs such as a hinge-tape repair will also be noted. These repairs do not usually change the underlying condition grade, but do make the book more presentable. Some books are beyond help and will be listed as "Fair/Acceptable" or "Poor". We do not follow ILAB grading guidelines as we sell newer books across many venues. Our grading system is based mainly on Amazon's grading system. Former library copies are never graded above "Good" regardless of level of wear. We watch closely for any signs of water damage, and even minor water damage will be graded no better than "Good," and all signs of water exposure will be noted. Below is a list of the condition grades we use, in descending order: New/Fine Like New/Near Fine Very Good++ Very Good+ Very Good Minus Good++ Good+ Good Fair-to-Good Fair/Acceptable Poor Very Poor We try to grade accurately, but condition grades are often subjective, so our grading in on the conservative side.

SHIPPING POLICY: We ship exclusively through the US Post Office, and orders are shipped within two business days of order processing. International orders for books that are over 4 lbs or larger than about 7" x 10" will incur additional oversize charges. We fully insure all shipments, both domestic and international, at no additional cost. All domestic shipments are trackable through the US Post Office, however, international shipments are not trackable unless Express/EMS shipping is specifically requested. This shipping method is a little faster than the standard Priority Airmail shipping and is fully trackable. The disadvantage is the cost: it costs about 30% more than the standard Airmail/Expedited option, but is available if requested. Regardless of delivery method, we fully insure all shipments.

RETURNS POLICY: We offer an unconditional two-week return policy: books can be returned for any reason if sent back within two weeks of the date they are received.
