About this Item

Paperback. 104 pages. Dimensions: 9.0in. x 6.0in. x 0.3in.A BOOK YOU CAN WRITE IN! This is not only an exciting fun filled story. Its also a motivational tool that gives a child an I CAN DO IT outlook on life. The reader gets to name the main character as well as where the story takes place. By letting the child interact in the book, it will increase the chance of them learning more than they would from just hearing or reading a good story. Within the book there is an empty space for the child to write the name of the bird. This happens every time the birds name is mentioned. Also there is a blank page for every chapter that the child can draw on if they choose. Follow the little bird born without the ability to fly as he learns about life. Be with him as he meets other animals and learns how, like people, everyone is unique in their own way. See his courage and bravery as he goes against the odds to do something no other bird has ever dared to do. He strives to enter the race the land animals have in the fall. The land animals have never let a bird enter the race. See his determination to enter the race and bring change so in the future it will be acceptable for other birds to race as well. All children are special and have something to give. Its our responsibility as adults to draw out their strengths, giving them every resource available. I read to my daughter every night, but I have never read her a story as fun and inspirational as A bird that couldnt fly. This is a story I want my child to read over and over again. About this title

Synopsis:

A BOOK YOU CAN WRITE IN! This is not only an exciting fun filled story. It's also a motivational tool that gives a child an "I CAN DO IT" outlook on life. The reader gets to name the main character as well as where the story takes place. By letting the child interact in the book, it will increase the chance of them learning more than they would from just hearing or reading a good story. Within the book there is an empty space for the child to write the name of the bird. This happens every time the birds' name is mentioned. It's our responsibility as adults to draw out their strengths, giving them every resource available. "I read to my daughter every night, but I have never read her a story as fun & inspirational as A bird that couldn't fly. This is a story I want my child to read over & over again." About the Author:

Tony Harrison was born in the early 1960's in Danville Va. where he and his son Zachary live today. They live on the hilltop in which the book takes place with their pets mentioned in the story. All other animals are fictitious and no similarity to actual persons, living or dead is intended or should be inferred. This story started with Tony seeing a little bird in his back yard that couldn't fly. From there he started thinking about children with disabilities; or like the animals in the story say "disadvantages," and how children need to know that just because they are weak in one area, they can be strong in another. The little bird can't fly but he doesn't let that stop him from becoming a very fast runner and joining the race with the land animals at the end. Despite the fact that the land animals really didn't like that idea. This is to be more than just a fun story. It is Tony's hope that children will get a boost of confidence from this reading experience. He believes that if a child can have some input on the story by naming the bird and the location they will become more interested. Also feeling what the bird felt and seeing how he doesn't let anything get in the way of his dreams. How he doesn't let his disability stop him from achieving great things in other avenues of his life. There is also a board game that corresponds with the race in the last chapter. The children playing will have things happen to them just like in the book.
